Book Models

Although primarily a paper conservator, I am really keen to learn more about books and bookbinding. As the Chester Beatty Library has such a wide and wonderful range of bindings in its collection, and moreover an experienced, knowledgeable and patient book conservator, whilst I am here I hope to make several book models under her tuition. Creating a model, from start to finish, will help me to understand a lot more about binding structures and the mechanics of books, and as I frequently work upon single disbound folios I think having an understanding of the structure they came from is a valuable asset to my conservation knowledge.
